There was a process of finding new forms, visual means and techniques, awareness of the montage-poetic nature of cinematography, that is, in the bowels of cinema, its own aesthetic system was formed.

In 1911, in the suburb of Katerynoslav (modern Dnipro), director and cameraman Danylo Sakhnenko shot the first feature film of national production - "Zaporizka Sich". Since the beginning of the 20th century, preference was given to the famous plays: "Natalka Poltavka", "Naymichka", "Moskal the Magician", "Bohdan Khmelnytskyi". Moreover, attention is not lost to national thoughts, fairy tales, legends, which were resolved in the folklore-epic vein. The process of changing generations, which resulted in a kind of fruitful competition, does not pass by the author's attention: the youth grew up "on the shoulders" of their predecessors, the "living classics" often followed the path of the searches that young artists were making.
