However, the worldwide fame of the cinematography of the Soviet period of the 20s of the 20th century was undoubtedly associated with the names of its classics - S. M. Eisenstein (1898–1948), V. I. Pudovkin (1893–1953) and our great compatriot O. P. Dovzhenka. S. M. Eisenstein's creative output was presented not only by his films "Strike", "Battleship "Potemkin", "October", which contributed to the enrichment of the film language and cinematic image in the art of cinema in general, but also by significant theoretical developments in the field of "intellectual cinema", installation problems, etc.

The essay devoted to the history of animated cinema belongs to O. Shupyk, the author of numerous articles and books about Ukrainian animation. Having chosen the historical-theoretical aspect of presenting the material, the author singles out the main periods of formation and development of domestic animation. The appearance of scientific investigations, articles on the pages of such magazines as "Kino-Kolo", "Kino-Teatr", the publication of monographs devoted to certain problems of domestic cinema, became the basis for an in-depth generalization of the research of film studies and gave rise to the publication of "Essays on the History of Cinematography of Ukraine" under the auspices of the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems, Academy of Arts of Ukraine.
